Cirque du Soleil is the largest theatrical producer in the world and has been a part of Las Vegas for over twenty years. Their shows run throughout the year, with each one lasting ninety minutes on average, and, with eight different Cirque du Soleil shows in Vegas to choose from, there is something to suit just about every age group.
Mystère was Cirque du Soleil’s first Vegas show, and it definitely set a high standard for all of their subsequent shows to adhere to. It is one of the most humorous Cirque du Soleil shows and combines elements of everything from classic Greek theater to Chaplin comedy to Dali surrealism. The show takes viewers on a journey of emotions and leaves them feeling uplifted by the end of it.
KÀ is the first Cirque du Soleil show to attempt to tell a linear story, with its plot focusing on a pair of twins that have been separated. Each must make an individual journey in order to come face to face with their destiny. One of the highlights of this show is the movable stage that fluidly twists, tilts and spins along with the story, making it one of the most technologically advanced shows in Las Vegas.
Michael Jackson ONE
The Michael Jackson ONE show is a show that celebrates Michael Jackson’s legacy, using dance and movement to interpret the star’s music. Michael Jackson’s timeless tunes are combined with an incredible spectacle of gymnastic arts and dance, with video clips flashing through the huge screens all around the stage, resulting in a show that is vibrant and vigorous, but still extremely sentimental.
LOVE is a Cirque du Soleil show that makes heavy use of multimedia, from their extensive visual effects to the classic and powerful soundtrack. This show is quite extravagant, and the way in which the Beatles have been combined with the style of Cirque du Soleil makes for quite a unique spectacle.
Zarcana is set in an abandoned Gothic theater and features plenty of daredevil acrobatics, high-altitude moves, and dazzling special effects. The performers are surrounded by massive screens, and while it can sometimes be difficult to tell where the screens end and the performers begin, this only adds to the mesmerizing effect of the show.
Zumanity was the first Cirque du Soleil show to go down a more adult-orientated path and celebrates everything to do with love and sex. As with all other Cirque shows, this one is done incredibly artfully, showing viewers the wonderful diversity that sex brings.
The set for “O” is most certainly a technological triumph – within mere seconds, it transforms from a hard surface into anything from a vast lake to tiny puddles. The show explores the different meanings that water holds for us, from baptism to boating, with graceful water dancers gliding across the surface, surrounded by divers tumbling down on all sides.
CRISS ANGEL Believe
Criss Angel is an excellent illusionist, and this Cirque du Soleil show focuses on Angel and his many skills. Focussing on magic and illusion, this is definitely a show that any fans of Criss Angel need to see, while those who do not know much about the illusionist may enjoy one of the other Cirque du Soleil shows more.
Cirque du Soleil has a show in Vegas to appeal to just about everyone. Whether you want a linear story punctuated by Cirque’s signature style, or something more abstract and technologically impressive, each show is unique and diverse, making it no surprise that people often take in a few different Cirque shows during a trip to Vegas.
