Running this year from the 1st of June until the 31st of August, the City of Perth Winter Arts Festival is the biggest winter festival in Perth, and is one that the city eagerly awaits as the cold weather starts to roll in. Perth has been increasingly encouraging its creative talent, and the annual Winter Arts Festival is one of the outcomes of this, showcasing extraordinary local and international artists from just about every genre. With over 130 different scheduled events, featuring everything from visual art to dance to music to literature to comedy, the exciting program promises to keep the city full of color and life during the cold winter months.
With so many events spanning a number of different genres, the Winter Arts Festival is able to cater to a wide range of tastes just about every night of the week. However, there are some events that are extremely eagerly anticipated, and this includes OUR Land People Stories, a new contemporary dance piece by the Bangarra Dance Theatre, as well as the Little Shop of Horrors at His Majesty’s Theatre musical. Additionally, this year’s Winter Arts Festival will be hosting The Caucasian Chalk Circle, the Black Swan State Theatre’s first ever international collaboration, along with the National Theatre of China.
Winter Supper Club
The Winter Supper Club is always a popular feature of the Winter Arts Festival, and will be held on the last Friday of each of the three months that the festival runs for. Featuring winter street food from around the world, the atmosphere here is always friendly, inviting and mouth-watering, as your senses will be filled with tantalizing dishes from across the globe. There will also be a licensed area that serves up mulled wine and winter cocktails, with all of this being accompanied by local musicians playing live music all through the evening.
Underneath St. George’s Terrace lies a decommissioned tunnel, which is transformed into the Winter ArtsBar each year during the Winter Arts Festival. Filled with live performances, multimedia projections and LED installations, this transformed space is the perfect setting for this unique creative wonderland.
