The Asian Film Awards are a more recent awards show when compared to others, and first began in 2007. The ceremony is held each year in Hong Kong and showcases the best film achievements in Asian cinema. As exciting as the ceremony is, the outfits worn by the celebrities and flaunted on the red carpet are the reason why many fashionistas tune in to the show, enjoying seeing the gowns and tuxedos on display, many of which have been created by leading fashion designers from around the world.
The 7th Asian Film Awards was attended by world-famous Asian actress Michelle Yeoh, who is known as being a Bond girl, as well as for her role in ‘Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon’ and ‘The Lady’. Yeoh was dressed in a beautifully delicate Valentino dress, with a floral print. It was soft and feminine, contrasting with the action roles that she tends to play in movies. Wearing black nail polish and the perfect amount of make up, Yeoh looked sweet and chic at the same time.
Jessica Cambensy also attended the award show that year, wearing quite a daring outfit. Cambensy is half-American and half-Filipino, known for her modelling work in Asia, and was also recently graced with the title of UFC China’s new ring girl. This stunning beauty rocked the red carpet in a printed jumpsuit from Leonard, with a very low neckline. The shape showed off her curves and her understated accessories brought more attention to her outfit choice.
Zhang Zi Yi is a well known Chinese actress, and has worked with many talented directors. At the 8th Asian Film Awards, she chose to wear a jacquard print dress, from the Armani Privé Spring 2014 collection, pairing it with glitter Jimmy Choo peep-toes. The dress featured a center slit and a slashed neck, accentuating her trim figure, and it was paired with diamond earrings and a small clutch bag. Zhang Zi Yi won the award that night for Best Actress.
Zhang Zi Yi also attended the 5th Asian Film Awards in 2011, also wowing her fans with her fashion choice. The actress wore a strapless dress from Christian Dior’s 2010 S/S collection, and although she looked fantastic, she received quite a few complaints and critical comments on many Chinese websites, as people thought her outfit was ‘too sexy’ as it looked like lingerie.
We always love those who dare to wear something a little different, allowing their personalities to shine through their clothes, and this was no exception with Richie Ren. Ren is a much-loved Chinese actor, and chose to wear a leopard print Givenchy suit to the 2011 awards show, raising many eyebrows. The extravagant outfit, paired with a black shirt, was tailored to perfection and was well suited to the occasion.
Award shows are always filled with fun and glamor, as well as a whole variety of fashions, and the Asian Film Awards are no different. From stunning couture gowns to leopard print menswear, the fashions and styles seen at the award shows provide almost as much entertainment as the awards themselves.
