A vacation is always so much more meaningful when you are able to find inspiration in your destination. From places with inspiring historical landmarks to areas of inspirational natural beauty, OROGOLD brings you some truly inspiring places to visit.
The Great Wall of China
With a history that spans over 2700 years, the Great Wall of China is instantly inspiring, and you can’t help but wonder about the lives of the people that experienced this Wonder of the World for themselves in the past. Although many sections of the wall have disappeared, and others are in ruins, there are still some magnificent parts that are still standing. Most people head to Beijing, to see the Badaling section of the wall. However, since this is the most popular, it can also get extremely crowded, so be prepared to rub shoulders with groups of tourists. For those who want a quieter section, OROGOLD recommends Simatai or Mutianyu, as the ancient walls here contrast spectacularly with the wilderness around it.
One of the most important archaeological sites in Asia, Angkor Archaeological Park sprawls out across 400 km squared, and encompass 45 temples, including the world famous temple of Angkor Wat, as well as the Bayon temple Angkor Thom. The majestic Angkor Wat is believed to have taken around 30 years to build, in the year 1150, and is truly a majestic sight, with the colors of the stone changing with the light of the day. OROGOLD highly recommends starting or ending your visit at either sunrise or sunset, as the colors that are cast onto Angkor Wat from the sky just emphasizes the spiritual and historical energy that surrounds the place. Angkor Thom was the last remaining capital of the Khmer empire, and depicts Buddhist cosmology in a way that not even some of the greatest painters would have been able to portray at that time.
Marble Cathedral, Chile
Chile is home to the second largest freshwater lake in the world, one which they share with Argentina, and it is here, at General Carrera Lake, where you will find the Marble Cathedral. A complex system of caverns and passageways filled with water, it is considered to be the most spectacular cave network in the world, and not only because the walls are made of marble. Due to the glacial silt that lies beneath the water, the water is a striking azure color and is magically clear, reflecting against the marble walls to create an inspiring natural light show. As beautiful as the Marble Cathedral may be, OROGOLD warns you that it takes some travel to get there, with a flight from Santiago to Coyhaique, and then 200 miles on an extremely challenging dirt road. However, as everyone who has witnessed this wonder would agree, the journey is definitely worth it.
Inspiring places can be found all over the world. As magnificent as the Great Wall of China or Angkor Wat may be, there really are inspiring places everywhere, and there are likely to be several in your hometown that are just waiting to be discovered by you.
