Dubai is a global city, known for its towering skyscrapers and busy streets. It is also located in the Arabian Desert, meaning that if you want some time away from the buzz of the city, there are plenty of desert-based activities you can do. From riding camels along the sand dunes to enjoying a private candlelit meal in the middle of the desert, Dubai offers some truly unforgettable experiences that will give you a great taste of desert life. OROGOLD Cosmetics reviews the top things to do in the Dubai desert.

People enjoying a camel ride in the desert.

Camel Safari
Camels are known in Dubai as the ships of the desert, and a camel safari is the perfect way to step back in time and experience Dubai as it was in the past. A variety of camel safaris and excursions are available, depending on how much time you have. Many companies also offer the opportunity to spend the night in the desert in a Bedouin camp, authentically lit with traditional lamps but with many modern facilities. The camps have some great entertainment for the evening, from cultural activity demonstrations to learning how to prepare local recipes. For something more private and romantic, opt for a sunset camel ride into the desert, stopping to sip champagne whilst watching the sun go down.

Woman sandboarding in the desert.

Sandboarding
Sandboarding is one of the most popular desert sports, and is not too difficult to pick up for those who have never tried it. You will be taken out into the desert, in an air conditioned 4×4, to some of the most beautiful sand dunes in Dubai. You will then be given instructions on how to sandboard, and a suitable board will be strapped to your feet, after which you can begin sliding down the majestic dunes. It is easier than snowboarding, and is a fun activity for both adults and children to try.

People quadbiking in the desert.

Quad Bike Safari
Quad bikes are a great fast-paced way to fully explore the vast stretches of desert, and you will find many desert safari holiday packages that include quad bikes. Before beginning, you will be instructed on the rules of off-road driving, after which you will be able to take control of your bike, navigating around some challenging sand dunes that your guide will lead you through. The length of time of the safaris can be customized to suit you, but most will end with you riding your bike over to a Bedouin campsite, where you can then enjoy a barbecue dinner and other cultural activities, including belly dancing, sheesha and henna painting. Don’t be afraid to try this out if you have never ridden a quad bike before, as the speed that you travel at is completely up to you, and all equipment will be provided by the safari operator.

The deserts of Dubai are truly breathtaking, and are something that every visitor to Dubai should see at least once. Try to avoid busy times, as crowds of tourists on the sand dunes can sometimes ruin the experience. There are many other desert activities available, from dune bashing to hot air balloon rides, so be sure to plan for as much desert-exploration time as you can!
